Indian Spiced Butter Beef Slow cooked chuck tender steak in indian spiced creamy butter sauce

4x 6oz chuck tender steaks or diced chuck tender

250g butter melted

1 green chilli, roughly chopped

4 cloves garlic, crushed

1 2 inch piece of ginger, chopped

Salt & pepper


For the sauce;

3 cloves garlic crushed

1 onion, peeled & chopped

2 fresh green chillies, seeded

1 inch piece of ginger peeled

½ tsp chilli powder

1 tsp turmeric

2 tsp garam masala

1 tbsp brown sugar

1 tbsp tomato puree

400g tin chopped tomatoes

Handful of fresh coriander

4-6 tbsp double cream

Salt & pepper to taste


Pre heat oven to 140oC

In a deep casserole dish melt the butter and add the rest of the ingredients, pour in enough water to just cover the meat and place a tight fitting lid or foil over the top.

Place into the oven and slowly cook at 140oC for 4 hours or until the meat is tender, leave to cool in the butter.

Meanwhile for the sauce heat 2 tbsp of oil in a pan, fry the onion, garlic, ginger and chilli for 4-5 minutes to soften.

Add in the spices and sugar and cook for 1-2 minutes.

Next add the tomato puree and chopped tomatoes and allow to cook for a further few minutes.

Blend the sauce then simmer for 10 minutes, add coriander and cream and check seasoning.

How to serve:

Heat a frying pan to high heat with a tbsp of oil add the steaks and turn down to a medium heat.

Add 50g of butter flip the steaks and baste the meat.

Serve on warm plates with your sauce spooned over the top.

Serve with rice or poppadoms and chutneys.
